Go Out More
Show Ottawa businesses, especially during the first
six months that you support their new smoke-free
status. Experience in other cities with smoke-free
by-laws shows that businesses may experience a loss
in the first month or so after implementation. So
show your support and try out a new restaurant or
pub. Go bowling, play billiards, or try your luck
at bingo. Experience Smoke-Free Ottawa!
Voice
Your Support
Make a point of letting your server and/or the
manager know how much you enjoy the smoke-free
environment. You can tell them personally or write
a note on your bill.
Report
Violations
Call 580-2400 any time to report any violation of
the by-law. The line is open 24 hours a day, seven
days a week.
Counter
The Opposition
Inform your councillor and Mayor Bob Chiarelli (by
telephone, write, or email) that you fully support
City Council fighting any legal challenge to the
by-law.

In
the initial period after implementation of the
by-law, it will be especially important for
supporters to write letters to the editor and phone
call-in shows to indicate how much they enjoy
smoke-free public places.
Spread
The Word
Talk
to your friends and colleagues about the by-law,
and encourage them to experience Smoke-Free
Ottawa.
