June 12, 2006

Dear Friends,

I am very pleased to inform you that the Motion I tabled calling for a Smoke-Free Canada was unanimously passed in the Senate on June 7, 2006. The Senators came together to call on the federal government to protect Canadians from second-hand smoke by introducing legislation which bans smoking areas in enclosed workplaces under federal jurisdiction

With it now in the House of Commons for debate, I would like to call on you and any supporters that you have identified through your organization to bring your views and support to the government. Please contact:

  • Prime Minister Stephen Harper: Harper.S@parl.gc.ca
  • Hon. Bill Graham, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Commons: Graham.B@parl.gc.ca
  • Hon. Tony Clement, Minister of Health, Clement.T@parl.gc.ca

Your efforts at this point in time will assist in bringing this to the attention of those who will move this forward to a point where we could see comprehensive smoke-free legislation enacted.

Together we can bring make Canada just one step closer to becoming Smoke-Free.

Sincerely,

Hon. Mac Harb
Senator
