Postcard Campaign: Ottawa Residents and Tourists Support a Smoke-Free Outdoor Bylaw
During the summer and fall of 2011, the OCSH collected 2,600 signed postcards in support of smoke-free outdoor spaces, including 413 from tourists visiting from every province in Canada, New York, New Mexico, California, and Pennsylvania. Click here to download a copy of the postcard.
The OCSH presented the postcards to the Ottawa Board of Health on January 16, 2012 and delivered them to Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson the next day. Mayor Watson graciously accepted the postcards and later distributed them to Ottawa City Councillors.
Postcard signatories said:
"I would love to enjoy myself on a patio on a lovely day but I cannot breathe." ~ Joanna
"I have been in Ottawa for the past week with my infant, constantly avoiding 2nd hand smoke which is so pervasive in the Nation's Capital. Please set an example!" ~ Karen
"I have two children I would like to protect." ~ Maria
