Air Quality Study of Ottawa Patios
There is NO safe level of second-hand smoke...even outdoors!
Second-hand smoke poses a serious health risk to hospitality workers and patrons.
The OCSH and Physicians for a Smoke-Free Canada held a news conference on August 25, 2010 to release the results of a scientific study on second-hand smoke on restaurant and bar patios in Ottawa.
The scientific study found that hospitality workers and patrons can be exposed to second-hand smoke on a patio even under windy conditions or if they sit in a non-smoking section, and that levels of particulate matter on a smoky patio are much higher than on a busy road.
